UNCANNILILY is a solo dance performance that takes its inspiration from 19th century female
automatons and 1990s cyborg feminism, situating these ideas in a singular dystopian vision of the
21st century. The work seeks to depict the eeriness of white supremacy, how this blatant
hegemony remains veiled by good intentions. It hopes to implicate the arbiters of history, pointing
out the extent to which American capitalism, patriarchy, interventionist foreign policies, and white
culture continue to dominate physical embodiment, digital space, and even airspace. At the same
time, the artist’s own white consumerist upbringing is investigated through experiences of abjection
related to food.
